Året är 2030 och det råder akut klimatkris. Isbergen smälter, djuren dör och planeten bågnar under tyngden av människans försummelse och girighet.
Eftersom inga alternativ återstår fattar världens ledare ett gemensamt, pragmatiskt beslut för att rädda planeten. Under ett helt år kommer jordens 8,5 miljarder människor att gå i ide. En gas kommer att släppas ut i atmosfären och mänskligheten kommer omedelbart att försättas i djup sömn, vilket skall ge naturen möjlighet att återhämta sig.
Återhämtningen av den mänskliga världen går dock inte som förväntat …
